Happy Thursday, Even the best of intentions go off the rails. I know this past week certainly has for me. On Thursday and Friday I had a great time at the IDA conference and learned so many things from my amazing colleagues. We even talked about the **NEWLY REVISED** definition of dyslexia now adopted by IDA this month! So much to unpack as many experts weighed in on the essential elements the define the wide spectrum of dyslexia. “Dyslexia is a specific learning disability characterized by difficulties in word reading and/or spelling that involve accuracy, speed, or both and vary depending on the orthography. These difficulties occur along a continuum of severity and persist even with instruction that is effective for the individual’s peers. The causes of dyslexia are complex and involve combinations of genetic, neurobiological, and environmental influences that interact throughout development. Underlying difficulties with phonological and morphological processing are common but not universal, and early oral language weaknesses often foreshadow literacy challenges. Secondary consequences include reading comprehension problems and reduced reading and writing experience that can impede growth in language, knowledge, written expression, and overall academic achievement. Psychological well-being and employment opportunities also may be affected. Although identification and targeted instruction are important at any age, language and literacy support before and during the early years of education is particularly effective.” Then things went off track real fast by Sunday! 🚉 🛤️ My asthma turn a turn and I felt much worse when I got home. Then came 3 more days in the hospital with pneumonia. 👩🏽⚕️Lots of doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists 🩻 by my side as I crocheted in my hospital bed. I just got home from the hospital today. I’m grateful to all of the many members of the medical team, mom for going back and forth to the hospital, beautiful flowers from my client, and far too much time to crochet in my hospital bed. The students will love that my finger glowed in the dark when I see them this week. Time for more TV and crochet time at home while I finish recovering from this mess. Before I go curl up in bed again, one last goodie for you! Workshop Sale! 40% off your choice of workshops!Your choice of workshops, just
